At Carlton Clinic, we have tailored health assessments and services for men.

“Well Man” Medical

Newly re-organised to offer maximum effectiveness at a very affordable cost, our most comprehensive men’s health check is designed for men between the ages of 45 and 70.  The purpose is to screen for common treatable illnesses that are a threat to the health and lives of men in this age group.

We screen for the common heart and arterial conditions, such as Angina and Stroke. We assess the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including raised blood pressure, diabetes, raised cholesterol and other fats, smoking, diet and alcohol consumption, obesity, and an exercise assessment.  If any lung abnormalities are detected, we arrange a chest x-ray and lung function tests.

We check for prostate enlargement, and signs of men’s cancers including prostate and testicular cancer.  We check for hernias, bowel cancers, renal disease, liver disease, thyroid disease, and haemochromatiosis. We also perform a skin survey to check for skin cancer.  We assess sexual health and erectile function.  The check-up also includes an assessment for depression and anxiety.

The Well Man includes an initial assessment carried out by our Practice Nurse and a follow up consultation with your doctor.

Follow up care can be provided as required at the Carlton Clinic, or any appropriate referrals arranged.

The total cost for the Well Man check up is €200 which we believe is excellent value covering the most common major threats to men’s health in this age group.  Any additional investigations or follow up care are not covered by this cost, but we do offer reduced rates to Well Man patients for lung function testing and 24 hour blood pressure monitoring.

If you would like to arrange an appointment for the Well Man check-up, or if you have any questions about it, please ask your doctor or enquire at our reception.

Preparing for Your Well Man Appointment

We recommend that you omit alcohol from your diet for 2 days prior to your tests with the nurse.  Please fast for 12 hours in advance (sips of water are allowed but no tea / coffee / food etc).  Please bring a urine sample with you. Urine bottles are available at reception if you need one.

An effective health screening for men with busy schedules! In a single visit, our doctor will carry out blood tests and a full physical examination.  You can even get your results by telephone. It’s the hassle-free way to look after your health.
