Emergency Help

Health emergencies - dial 999 or 112 for ambulance service, fire and rescue services.

The Samaritans offer a non-judgmental, confidential listening service for people in need at 1850 60 90 60 or email jo@samaritans.org

The Rape Crisis Centre offers a 24 hour telephone helpline 1800 77 88 88.

Childline offers 24 hour helpline for anyone up to the age of 18 at 1800 666 666.

Children's Services

The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) is Ireland’s oldest and most well-known children’s charity.

The ISPCC's Childline phone service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Anyone up to the age of 18 can avail of Childline's phone service at 1800 666 666.

Teentxt’ is a live one-to-one text messaging support service run by Childline for young people. By texting the word ‘Talk’ to 50101 a young person from anywhere in Ireland can avail of this free confidential service.

One Family is Ireland's national organisation for one-parent families. Their helpline number is 1890 662212

Teen Between is is a specialised support service for teenagers whose parents are going through a divorce or separation. It can also help young adults who have experienced their parent's separation during their teenage years. Teen Between run a helpline, 1800 303191.

Children in Hospital works directly with children in hospitals to help them cope with illness and hospitalisation, and provides ongoing support to their families www.childreninhospital.ie

Arthritis

Arthritis Ireland is a national members organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life of people with arthritis. www.arthritisireland.ie

Asthma

The Asthma Society of Ireland provides support services to those suffering from asthma in Ireland. www.asthmasociety.ie

Cancer

The National Cancer Screening Service was established by the Minister for Health and Children in January 2007. It includes two screening services, BreastCheck and CervicalCheck.

BreastCheck is a Government-funded programme providing breast screening and invites women aged 50 to 64 for a free mammogram on an area-by-area basis every two years.

CervicalCheck - The National Cervical Screening Programme provides free smear tests to women aged 25 to 60. A smear test is a simple procedure that only takes minutes and is the most effective way to detect changes in the cells of the cervix.

The Irish Cancer Society states that their mission is to play a vital role in achieving world-class cancer services in Ireland, to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. Visit their website for news, events and information about various cancer types. www.cancer.ie

The Marie Keating Foundation works to provide public awareness of cancer in Ireland and strives to provide support to those affected by the disease. Visit their website to view upcoming events or information on the services they provide. www.mariekeating.ie

Diabetes

The Diabetes Federation of Ireland aims to provide a quality service in improving the lives of people affected by diabetes, and working with others to prevent and cure diabetes. Their website contains some useful information for those living with diabetes as well as news about upcoming events. www.diabetesireland.ie

Heart Health

The Irish Heart Foundation is Ireland's only national charity for heart health and is working to reduce premature death and disability from heart disease and stroke.  Their website is full of advice about staying Heart Healthy. www.irishheart.ie

Kidney Disease

The Irish Kidney Association is a charitable voluntary organisation dedicated to meeting the needs of renal patients and their families and carers, living with and affected by end stage renal disease. Visit www.ika.ie for more information.

Mental Health

Aware is a national voluntary organisation providing support through depression. Visit their website for information about support groups, helpline phone numbers and upcoming events. www.aware.ie

Money Issues

The Irish Revenue website contains useful information about tax and benefit entitlements in Ireland. www.revenue.ie

MABS offers confidential, independent and non-judgmental service for people in debt or who are in danger of falling into debt. You can contact MABS at 0761 07 2000, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 8 pm or you can email your query to helpline@mabs.ie.

MS Ireland is a national organisation providing information and support to those affected by Multiple Sclerosis, a progressive neurological condition. www.ms-society.ie
